The Wasteland is a vastly unexplored area of the world.
Teaming with vicious prehistoric like animals, wide open expanses of rock leading to sheer cliffs and tall mountains make this place very dangerous. If someone were to become lost here it may take days or even weeks to find civilization.
The only known way out by foot is to cross though the Wasteland over the dunes to the sea miles away...If you manage to survive that long.
This is also the location of Piccolo's camp where he trained Gohan to protect the planet from the soon to arrive Saiyans. There is also a large waterfall where the somber Namek is said to meditate for hours on end.
